Retiring on Roatan
Once only known to avid SCUBA divers as a world class diving destination, Roatan is quickly becoming a praised vacation and retirement destination as well. This hidden jewel of the Caribbean is not as overdeveloped, over exploited, or expensive as other islands such as Cozumel, the Caymans, or Jamaica. Roatan still has some of the most affordable real estate in the Caribbean. The cost of living and crime rates are also very low compared to many Caribbean Islands. In addition to the constant write-ups and rave reviews in diving publications like SCUBA Diving Magazine and Sport Diver Magazine, it has also received much praise from international travel and living publications. It is routinely named one of the best islands to retire on.

Visa Requirements and Residency
Every visitor to Honduras is allowed a 90 day visa plus one 30 day extension. If you are planning on living full time on Roatan, I recommend getting your residency even if you do leave every 3-4 months. There are multiple categories for residency including investor and retiree. The residency process can be complicated and time consuming so we recommend hiring a Honduran attorney to help you complete the process. Most residencies are granted within a year of applying.
